Beauty Review : Chumbak’s Skincare Range

Chumbak as a brand is all about joie de vivre. Their stores are so vibrant and eclectic that every visit fills you with zest and delight. I love their motto of #makehappy 😊. Recently, the brand came up with their skincare range, something very different from their usual categories. The packaging is aesthetically pleasing and the nomenclature is quite artistic. The products are devoid of any parabens and carcinogenic substances. And the best part, they are all hand processed and Chumbak is against animal testing.

Here we are reviewing the shower gel, hand sanitiser and lip balm :

Good Things Shower Gel :

– priced at 395 rupees/250 ml.

– very mild with a subtle floral fragrance. The fragrance reminds me of a soap i used as a kid though I can’t recall the name.

– not very effective for cleansing and doesn’t lather much.

I am a big fan of shower gels from The Body Shop, there are so many to choose from different skincare ranges and each has a special purpose. I hope Chumbak comes up with more and better options in this category.

DSC_1097

DSC_1098Good Things Hand Sanitiser :

– priced at 195 rupees/50 ml.

– floral fragrance similar to the shower gel.

– gets absorbed quickly.

Sanitiser has become an essential thing given the number of germs and viruses in the environment, but I always dread the smell of these. This is a great product from Chumbak , you get clean hands without that pungent smell.

DSC_1104

Tangerine Tales Lipbalm :

– priced at 195 rupees/8 ml.

– light texture and quite moisturising.

– can be a perfect base for matte lipsticks.

– tantalising aroma of tangerine.

This is my favourite out of the three. I do not prefer glossy balms as they ruin the matte effect. This one is not heavy and yet very hydrating for the lips.

So the sanitiser and the lipbalm surely won my heart. I will definitely be reviewing other products from their skincare range soon.

Decor : Anantaya

Anantaya is a lifestyle design studio that is centered on the philosophy of using traditional crafts in a contemporary style. The gamut of products designed include home decor, textiles, lighting, furniture, gifts etc. The store is located in the beautiful environs of Narain Niwas Palace, a place that provides a perfectly apt background for such eclectic products.

What I love most about Anantaya is the fact that there is a deep-rooted tradition behind each of their products, whose relevance has been so elaborately explained and then the product is designed in a completely unconventional way but nowhere losing on the origins. Whether it is the Cresent serve ware or the Lotus mirror, each item has been conceived not only from the beauty perspective but their being conducive to the overall well-being of a house.

There’s also a separate section dedicated to organic skincare with things like soap, lip balm, aroma oils, candles etc. The overall vibe of the store is very calming and uplifting. Visit Anantaya to buy things for your home or gifts for your loved ones or simply to witness the amazingly designed stuff 😊.

Bookchor’s Lock The Box Sale

It was the name Bookchor (Chor = Thief) that fascinated me into finding more about this company. Their aim is to make reading affordable by selling second-hand books at reasonable prices. You get to buy as well as sell books on their website, so increasing reading base without spending too much. Their quality inspectors ensure that the books are in decent condition.

These pictures are from their recent event held at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur. “Lock The Box”, so all the books that fit in the box are yours. There were three different boxes : Odysseus (priced at 999 rupees and could fit 9-10 books), Perseus (priced at 1499 rupees and could fit 15-17 books) and Hercules ( priced at 2499 rupees and could fit 28-30 books). So you had the option of browsing the entire collection and then deciding which box to go for.

The reader in me was quite excited at the idea of buying so many books at low prices and i was pretty sure that i would end up buying the Hercules box. The exhibition hall was filled with thousands of books and so many readers browsing through them. Alas, most of these were fiction books meant for school/college students and I decided not to buy any of the box. But seeing so many children filling up their boxes enthusiastically was a wonderful sight. More power to Bookchor.

Beauty Review : It’s Skin Mask Sheets

When it comes to giving much needed nutrition to the skin, nothing beats sheet masks. Dearpacker sheet masks are my absolute favourite, Sephora ones didn’t impress me much and now it is time to review sheet masks from another Korean brand called It’s Skin. The masks are priced at rupees hundred each, there was an offer going on so I got one mask free on purchase of two. These are available on Nykaa and also on Amazon.

Here’s my experience with the three masks :

1. Aloe : Moisture & Calming

Aloe Vera is the epitome of all things salubrious, so I decided to try this one first. It is intended to provide moisture and to soothe the skin. It did have a smoothing effect on my skin. Though it didn’t have a cooling effect, which all aloe infused products have generally. So I would say it is moisturising but not calming.

2. Pomegranate : Clean & Vitality

This was a disappointment as I didn’t notice any discernible changes in my skin. I expected it would remove impurities and will make skin more clear, but it failed. The only good part was its fragrance.

3. Olive : Nutrition & Firming

This was better than the pomegranate one, it was moisturising and also imparted a bit of glow on the skin.

Overall, I will rate these masks as moderate. I like them more than the Sephora ones owing to their affordable pricing, but Dearpacker still has all my heart.

Hope you found this review helpful. Do follow us on Facebook and on Instagram , it means a lot 😍.

Jaypore’s Open House In Jaipur

I am an educator by profession but an artist in my fantasy life. There are so many handcraft traditions in India, that i fear one life will be too short to explore all of them. Even if i know i will not be able to explore all the paths, i want to be there! I love the idea that i still have so much to see and learn.

My love for Jaypore and its core philosophy is conspicuously displayed on the blog, it has been giving a platform to so many creative peeps to share their artwork with you. From the past few months, Jaypore has also started conducting expos in various cities of the country.  We have already covered their first expo, which was held in Delhi and also a blogpost on what all i purchased from it.

It was Jaipur’s turn to get its share of Jaypore’s magic. The expo was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Narain Niwas Palace. It was such a delightful feeling to witness so many handwoven/handcrafted fabrics like – banarasi, brocade, tussar silk, organic cotton, kantha work, ikat, block prints and so much more. Apart from the fabrics/apparel, there were hand-printed clutches, embroidered bags, silver/tribal jewelry, organic skincare, home decor etc.

The aesthetics of the expo were very charmingly done against a lush green backdrop, here are the pictures-

Brand Review : Woodgeekstore

Wood + Geek – the combination appears to be quite an eccentric one. They are geeks with a passion for all things wooden and are trying to break the conventional image of wood by exploring it beyond its traditional uses. There is the usual walnut, bamboo, mahogany, rosewood, teak etc, but used in a plethora of bohemian ways. An artist truly has a wild mind and a disciplined eye.

Woodgeekstore offers an eclectic collection of customised wooden posters, journals, notebooks, pens, bow ties, phone cases, sunglasses along with cover. Imagining wood in such an unconventional manner speaks volumes about the creativity of the Woodgeeks team. Moreover, these products are the perfect thing to gift- eco friendly, quirky and personalised with a design or message of your choice.

I didn’t face any issues while ordering stuff from their website. Cash on delivery is available for non-customised products and it takes about a week for the stuff to get delivered. For personalised items, they do share a digital mockup for the customer’s approval and then it is actualised.

Here’s what I ordered-

1. Personalised sunglasses cover-

These can be an ideal gift- creative and economical. The cover looks good, can be personalised and is very sturdy.

2. Personalised sunglasses along with a free customised cover-

There are various styles available- wayfarers, round, aviators etc and you also have the option of choosing the wood of your choice from rosewood, bamboo, mahogany etc. Full marks for creativity but I am not so content with the quality of the glasses used, the wooden frame is good and given that natural is the new cool so the sunglasses look super chic.

Hope you enjoyed our review of the Woodgeekstore, it is our constant endeavor to bring such creative stories to you. Ciao 😍

Dearpacker Sheet Masks From Nykaa

Sheet masks are having a moment, thanks, to the benefits they provide for the skin, not-to-mention the variety available and convenient packing. There is a sheet for everything- to brighten, tighten, hydrate or reduce large pores. You can also get an overnight sheet mask and use it as a quick-fix at a destination wedding where you are not likely to find a salon.

I had never heard the name of this Korean skincare brand Dearpacker, until I saw their sheet masks being sold on Nykaa. They were organic, reasonably priced and had some salubrious ingredients making them worthy of a try. Nykaa had a fabulous offer by which one could purchase seven masks for 500 rupees. Here’s my review of the seven sheet masks I purchased –

But before I apprise you about the characteristics of each of these sheet masks, I want to add that Dearpacker has surprised me and the masks are much better than what I had expected them to be. In fact, these masks beat the sephora ones both in terms of pricing and quality. It is commendable that Nykaa is adding such a wide variety of brands to its array.

1. Green Tea + Jasmine Flower

Green Tea – improves the overall appearance of the complexion and neutralises the damage done by exposure to UV rays.

Jasmine flower- has soothing and calming properties to diminish visible redness.

Fragrance- None.

This was the first one I used and it did create an amazing first impression. It had a rejuvenating effect and added a fresh glow to the face, it is perfect to be used for any occasion especially when one has less time.

2. Lavender + Argan Oil

Lavender- restores essential moisture balance to soften skin and its relaxing aroma provides natural stress relief. Sm

Argan Oil- is rich in Vitamin E to deeply hydrate and nourish skin, delivering dewy glow.

Fragrance- strong lavender.

This one had a moisturising effect. It is good for winters, when the skin gets dry and chapped.

3. Lab Collection Mask – Anti-Aging & Firming

The blend of active ingredients such as adenosine and almond oil improve elasticity, smoothen fine lines and wrinkles for a youthful glow.

I would recommend this one as a part of your facial care routine, not intended to give an immediate glow but helping to improve the texture of skin in long run.

Fragrance- None

4. Coconut

Coconut- helps the skin stay moisturised, with preventing moisture loss throughout and gives a healthy, smooth and even tone.

Ideal for a cooling and rejuvenating effect.

Fragrance- Coconut Cookie 🍪

5. Fenugreek + Cucumber

Fenugreek- has cooling agent for brighter, clearer skin and imparts a soft glow on the face.

Cucumber- reduces skin tanning and rashes. Also restores moisture and comfort to sensitive skin suffering from irritation.

This one is ideal to get an instant glow and nurturing the skin.

Fragrance- Cucumber 6. Lab Collection Mask – Anti- Dry & Hydrating

This sheet mask contains a blend of hyaluronic acid aloe extracts which continuously plump and strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier while delivering a moisture boost.

This again should be used as a part of daily skin care regimen to prevent any breakouts or allergy.

Fragrance- None 7. Pea + Yogurt

Pea- stimulates the process of regeneration and gives skin firmness and elasticity.

Yogurt- effectively reduces roughness and lightens skin without drying out.

Helps in improving the complexion and lending a youthful glow to the skin.

Brand Review : Love This Stuff

“The biggest challenge is to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you like everyone else” – this is the core philosophy of Lovethisstuff. Founded by an ISB alumnus, Lovethisstuff has products that are unique and reflect the individuality in you. The brand brings together creative entrepreneurs, designers and craftsmen from across India orchestrating an eclectic display of their original work.

The best segment of products are the personalised ones and I would recommend the brand especially for customised gifts. There are a number of options wherein you can go for customised stationery, jewellery, bags, home-decor etc. A customised gift, no matter big or small, reflects the fact that we have taken some time out of our busy lives and used it to make the giftee feel special. The website is user friendly and one can easily place an order. It took about a week for the stuff to get delivered. I am quite satisfied with the products and the pricing is commensurate with quality.

Here’s a look at what I ordered –

My beauty haul at Sephora

So during my stay in Delhi, I visited the Sephora store at the Ambience Mall, Gurgaon. I wish Jaipur had a Sephora store too, it is very convenient to have all the makeup / skincare brands under one roof plus you can get detailed information about any product from their beauticians. I was looking for a face mist and some face-sheet masks from a long time, at Sephora I got a chance to try my hands on various kinds of brands , which sell these products.

Here’s a look at what all I purchased –

1. MAC lipstick- shade – Mehr

I loved my first MAC purchase- the Ruby Woo lipstick, it is perfect for outings/festivals and the texture is impeccable. So it was time for another sumptuous buy from the same range, I bought the Mehr matte lipstick which is a beautiful rose taupe shade and is perfect for everyday use. I will be reviewing it soon in the beauty review section.

2. MAC lip pencil- shade- Hip-‘N’-Happy

Though I wasn’t planning to buy a lip pencil, a beauty expert suggested this particular shade and said that it can go with a lot of peach/pink undertones. I prefer thin/ well-sculpted lips instead of the bee sting ones, and after using this product I have realised that a lip pencil can prevent your lipstick from getting messy and slipping off your lips. It also reduces the amount of lipstick required per application.

3. Forest Essentials– Facial Tonic Mist- Bela

I had been searching for a face mist that can be used to hydrate the face at any given time of the day and which can be applied onto makeup too. There are a lot of brands selling toners but they are meant to cleanse the skin and their frequent use can lead to dryness. On the other hand, a mist is used to refresh the face especially when we do not have the privilege of washing it. I was looking for a rose based fragrance but that wasn’t available so I bought the Bela flower one. I have been using it almost 3-4 times a day and it really helps in rejuvenating the senses. A blogpost soon on my love for mists ❤️

4. Sephora – Pearl Face Mask

During the journey 😂

Sheet masks are a great invention- easy to apply and no need to rinse them off. They hardly require 10-15 minutes of your time and can help in making the skin of your face healthier and more beautiful. I used this mask during a long journey through the mountains, it did help in moisturising my face and reducing the dryness caused by the harsh winds. But the result was a little less than what I was expecting as Sephora sheet masks are priced at 400-500 rupees each, which is four to five times the price of other sheet masks. I didn’t experience any cooling/brightening effect, which could have helped in reducing the fatigue. Therefore, I won’t be buying this particular mask again.

5. Sephora – Rose Face Mask

This one is intended to give a plumping and brightening effect, will be reviewing it after use.

6. Sephora – Peony Fizzing Cube

The cube dissolves in bath water, making it milky and scented. It seemed like a perfect thing for some in-house pampering. Review soon.

Hope you liked my beauty haul, we would love to know your experience at Sephora. Also, if you have used any of the above products, do share your feedback 😍

Beauty Review : The Body Shop’s LipScuff

A girl can never have too many lipsticks, a vibrant lip colour can suddenly transform the look from work-appropriate to party ready. But the excess use of cosmetics combined with the vagaries of the weather can leave the lips flaky and chapped. The Body Shop has launched a unique product called lipscuff, which is basically a scrub to buff dry lips, leaving them soft and supple. It is shaped exactly like a lipstick and is to be applied in the same manner, leave it on for 1-2 minutes and then wipe the residue with a tissue.

Pros –

  • completely organic and cruelty free.
  • exfoliates and moisturises lips, leaving them smooth.
  • easy to carry and easy to use.
  • soothing minty fragrance.

Cons –

  • None absolutely 😍

Overall Rating- 9 on 10

If you have ever used this lipscuff or plan to use it, Do share your experience with us ❤️

Jaypore’s Open House : 2

So I got a chance to attend Jaypore’s first open house at the Aga Khan Hall in Delhi, you can have a look at the pictures from the event in the first part of this blogpost. Though I tried to be austere in my shopping spree, I couldn’t resist myself from buying the organic range of cosmetics being exhibited at the expo. They were almost half the price of other natural brands and completely cruelty free.

There were some classic jewellery pieces on exhibit too, but to be honest not even a single pair of earrings was within 5k 😂. I had already shopped a lot during my stint in Delhi, so I decided to not give in to the temptation of buying jewellery. I did purchase a cotton-silk kimono style sleeveless jacket, loved the colour combination and the ultra soft fabric.

Coming to the skin care range, I bought a rose-oatmeal powder scrub for 595 rupees and an aloe-vera gel face pack for 450 rupees. Both the products look as if they are sourced right from a forest and the small wooden spoon given with each product for applying ,adds to the raw appeal.

a href=”https://aromaoflifeweb.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/img_5840.jpg”> Jacket from Jaypore, Kurti from W, Blockprinted Leggings from Lifestyle[

I will be reviewing the skincare products soon, hope you have liked us on Facebook and followed us on Instagram. It really motivates us to do better ❤️ See ya!!

OOTD With Global Desi

Global Desi – The name aptly represents the contemporary Indian woman, whose style is a unique amalgamation of tradition and ultramodern. The brand offers an eclectic mix of Kurtis, dresses, palazzos, skirts, tunics etc which are made by combining the Indian techniques of block printing, dying, embroidery with some chic silhouettes.

They work closely with traditional artisans to create exquisite ensembles and gorgeous handcrafted jewellery – paying homage to the supreme craftsmanship of India. The brand stands for a simple, beautiful thought – fashion is for everyone, everyone has a fashion.

Jaypore’s Open House : 1

Jaypore is one of my favourite shopping websites, I love the way they build a story across each collection and when you purchase something from the brand, it truly feels like buying a piece of heritage which carries its history along. Jaypore focuses on products with unique, high quality craftsmanship; unmistakably local designs that feel at home anywhere in the world. The products include home decor, accessories, jewelry, apparel, gifts, vintage items and more.

You can find fabrics belonging to each part of the country, whether it is Patola, Ikat, Banarasi, Chanderi, Chikankaari, Maheshwari, Phulkari, Bandhani etc. When it comes to accessories there is silver, terracotta, brass, ceramics, bamboo, pearls etc. Each collection is curated with detailed pictures and history of the weave/art, which is very important to apprise the buyer about the true value and the hardwork put in by the artisan to create the product.

Jaypore’s first open house was held from 29th-31st August at the Aga Khan Hall in Delhi. The aim was to bridge the gap between what you see online and how their handcrafted apparel and jewellery feels in person. Coincidentally, I was in delhi during the same period and I couldn’t miss the opportunity of experiencing the products firsthand. Touching a fabric and its weave by hand is hypnotically satisfying. I also got to witness Jaypore’s handmade organic skincare range, which is quite affordable compared to other chemical-free brands.

Here are pictures from the exhibition-

As usual, the second part of this blogpost will focus on my shopping spree at Jaypore’s first open house. You can subscribe to our blog to get an email update for every post and do like us on Facebook and  follow us on Instagram.

Bbye 😍

Brand Review : Snob Box 2

In our previous brand review- blogpost, we introduced you to a unique styling service for women called Snobbox. We took you through the entire procedure from placing the order to getting your snob box, which is personalised as per your conversation with their stylist.

So here we are unraveling the details of what all did my snob box contain, there were 3 main sections- jewellery, apparel and handbags. The box also contained a detailed list of all the items sent with their pricing, all you have to do is simply login to their website and select which all items you would want to keep and pay for them online. The entire process was hassle-free and after 2 days the return pickup was arranged where in you just need to return the stuff you do not wish to keep, along with the return shipping labels already provided in the box.

1. The accessories were a mix of tribal themed earrings and neckpieces in silver/golden metallic tones, they were quite up to my expectations, since I had asked for accessories with a bohemian touch.

Box of accessories

2. The apparel section included- a shirt embellished with pearls, an off-shoulder top, an Aztec print top, a white crochet top, a black basic flare top. I was happy with the variety offered, all pieces were different from each other. But the fabrics were bit of a concern; given the humid weather, I cannot imagine wearing polyester or other synthetic fabrics.

3. There were 3 kind of bags sent across in the box – a black sling bag, a grey backpack and a cream flap handbag. I really liked the sling and the flap bag, the backpack was a bit of a disappointment. I decided to keep the sling bag and return the other two.

Here’s the detailed list of all the stuff sent in my snob box –

Overall Experience- A very interesting concept and a flawless execution, I was satisfied with the accessories and handbags, though would definitely want the brand to improve their apparel offerings. I would recommend Snobbox to all our readers, as you get to experience something very unique at a nominal price and within the comfort of your home. I will be placing a new Snobbox order soon 🙂

Hope you have liked us on Facebook and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram.

Brand Review : Snob Box 1

It was through a Facebook  advertisement that I came to know about – Snobbox  , a first of its kind styling service for women. The phrase “styling service” intrigued me into finding more about the brand. Snobbox is an online shopping platform but what differentiates it from other shopping portals is the feature of trying things at the comfort of your home and then paying for whatever you like. So it is giving you the experience of shopping at a store sans the traffic and effort.

It is a novel concept and full marks to the founders for coming up with this idea. Snobbox gives you the facility of speaking to a stylist and letting her know about your taste in clothing, accessories, etc. Here’s my step by step experience with snobbox –

Step 1 – Placing the order

I placed my order on 22nd July through their website, which is quite user friendly. It takes you through a questionnaire regarding your fashion preferences, sizing details and what you would not like to see in your snobbox. You can even upload a picture to help their stylist in understanding what would be apt for you. Once you are done with all this, a styling fee of 180 rupees is charged to confirm the order. You will receive a confirmation mail for the same.

Screenshot of the email received

Step 2 – Call from Snobbox stylist

I received a call and an email on 26th August from Rashi, who is one of their stylists. She enquired about my style preferences in terms of jewellery, bags and apparel, which I would like to see in my snob box. I briefed her that I am looking for vintage/tribal style jewellery, a backpack style in handbags and monochromes in apparel. She took a note of my preferences and apprised me that best possible stuff will be sent as per my taste and that I would receive my snobbox in 3-4 days.

IMG_5388

Step 3 – Snob box received 🙂

I received my snob box on 1st August, Apart from the accessories and apparel, it consisted of a handwritten note from the stylist, return shipping label and a detailed list of all the items sent along with their prices. You get 48 hours to decide whatever you want to keep from the box, after that the return courier request is automatically scheduled.

So this was part 1 of my experience with Snobbox, what all did the box contain? The mystery will be unravelled in part 2 of this blog post 😉
